The Design and Installation Process
The design process begins with an initial free consultation, during which we determine the style of your home, the needs and lifestyle of your family, the physical growing conditions available on your property and your goals for a beautiful and useful landscape.
The design work begins with a detailed site plan, taking into consideration the style and color of your house, the placement of windows, the existing plant material if any of it will be saved or re-used, traffic patterns, and whether any existing conditions such as drainage issues need to be corrected. Attention to these details is what makes the difference between an ordinary design and a custom design that enhances the overall look of your home.
We will then present you with a hand drawn custom design and proposal that can be adjusted until you are satisfied with the design and level of care required. The proposal will show cost estimates of the plants, materials (such as mulch/compost) and labor. We will confirm a date for the plant delivery and installation. Your plant material will be delivered by McKay’s truck to your home. You need only water the plants until we install, usually within 1-2 days.
If you are looking for an economical way to get a custom landscape design with quality plant material and are willing to invest your own time and labor, you can plant your landscape yourself. McKay makes available a DVD which will teach you the proper planting methods. Garden Dreamscapes will be happy to answer any questions about the planting process and will help you with any portion of the installation at a reasonable cost. If you would prefer that we prepare the planting beds before you plant or install mulch after you plant, we will be happy to accommodate your needs.
